JR & the Roadkill Choir Win Contest–Earn Opportunity to Play the Ryman...
JR & the Roadkill Choir, Nashville’s hot new musical humor act, emerged as winner in the WSM-650AM’s “Tootsie’s to the Ryman” contest last Wednesday at the Ford Theater inside the Country Music Hall of Fame. As a part of their 80th anniversary celebration, the radio station that brings us the Grand Ole Opry designed a contest to give talented musicians a chance to compete for an opportunity to play at the historic Ryman Auditorium – the Opry’s original home.
“It’s a dream come true” says Misty Loggins about JR & the Roadkill Choir ’s upcoming Ryman performance on October 21st. They will be the opening act for country music legend Ray Price.
“It’s a great honor to perform at the Mother Church of country music,” continues John Russell, a.k.a. JR.
JR & the Roadkill Choir, penned the three original songs that won the contest: The Truckin’ Song, I’m Drinkin’ You Beautiful, and Nashville. (Misty’s clogging to the final tune undoubtedly stole the judge’s hearts). They both admit they had some stiff competition. “It was a great experience sharing the stage with some of Nashville’s finest up-and-coming acts,” muses JR.
The group plans to perform all three winning songs plus a few surprises. Will Misty clog at the Ryman? “I’m sure she will if she gets enough encouragement”, answers JR with a chuckle.
